Artist Statement

In my work I embrace the cycle of life and passage of time. I draw inspiration from my own interactions with the natural world and the enduring impact of humanity across time. My objective is to convey my experience with the ever-changing world. I am influenced by the timeless techniques of old masters such as Vincent Van Gogh and Francisco Goya, as well as the contemporary expressions of artists like Nicole Dyer and Nick Cave.

Line and texture are central elements that I use to build forms symbolic of my relationship with the world. I am drawn to learn about the world around me by my fingertips because it gives a primal, childish understanding of it and by doing this I unintentionally find the lines and textures I want to bring importance to. I enjoy exploring new ways to use and combine media to create works that utilize 2D and 3D design. When I use traditional materials, I look for how the material can be manipulated in a unique way. Often, I find recycled materials to work with because I want to give importance to the life cycle of the material. I let my projects develop through my investigation of the materials, which allows me to be open to the outcome of the process, rather than focus on a final product.

My current body of work is an examination of presence and connection, seeking to foster engagement beyond the superficial. I aim to create work that recognizes each of us as a part of the design of life and illuminates how we share this journey.
